Stay Informed, Attend Roundtable graphicLike us on FacebookRoundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the second Thursday of every month (except July) at 7:00 pm at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church (14045 Space Center Blvd, 77062)  to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program. Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas, information on upcoming events and training, and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts. Follow the district Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SanJacintoDistrict.

Pushmobile

March 7, 2020

A pushmobile is a youth-powered go-cart. Cub Scout dens make their own pushmobile. Six Cub Scouts work together as a team to push their pushmobile through the course to the finish line at this annual district event. The event is being held at Gateway Community Church (760 Clear Lake City Blvd., Webster, Texas 77598). Registration is typically done by the den leader and is completed online with a credit card or electronic check. Dens will race as teams. Individuals or groups of less than six Cub Scouts will be combined with other dens to form a team. Substitutions are allowed. Registration is $7.50 for the first Cub Scout and $6 for additional Cub Scouts who registers at the same time. Late registration begins 3/3/20.

District Dinner

fleur-de-leis on a plateDistrict Dinner is an opportunity for a night of fellowship and great food as we acknowledge and thank our adult volunteers for the hard work and dedication that made this year incredibly successful. San Jacinto’s outstanding leaders at the unit and district levels will also be recognized.  All volunteers in the San Jacinto District are invited. The event is being held at MultiCultural Center (951 Tristar Dr., Webster, TX 77598). The registration fee is $11.50 for the first Scouter and $10 for each additional Scouter. Registration closes 4/16/20.

Day Camp

June 15-19, 2020  |  4:30 - 9:00 pm

twilight camp sign2017-day-camp-patch-no-loop.pngPrepare for launch as we count down to lift-off, 2020: A Scout Odyssey! Cub Scouts and their families will learn new skills and make new friends. Twilight camp is a council camp organized by districts and conducted by volunteers from the local area for Cub Scouts entering 1st through 5th grade for the 2019-2020 school year. Twilight camp is a week of fun with awesome programs and activities such as BB guns, archery, sports, STEM, games and crafts, rank advancements, Scout skills, fun and more.  

Many volunteers are needed to make camp a success, so please consider volunteering. Adult volunteers can also register their non-Scouting children ages 3-5 (potty trained). Scouts in troops, crews and ships can also volunteer. An adult/guardian must register with a Tiger Cub (1st grader). The camp is being held at Lomax Arena (1508½ Lomax Rd., La Porte, TX 77571). The registration fees are $75 for registered Cub Scouts entering 1st through 5th grade next school year. The registration fee includes a t-shirt, patch, program supplies, and water bottle.

Religious Emblem Program

A Scout is reverent. They are reverent toward God. They are faithful in their religious duties and respects the convictions of others in matters of custom and religion.To encourage members to grow stronger in their faith, religious groups have developed the religious emblems programs. Additional resources are available from Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (P.R.A.Y). The Boy Scouts of America has approved of these programs and allows the emblems to be worn on the official uniform. The various religious groups administer the programs. A class for the Catholic Ad Altare Dei (7th graders and older up to 18) and the Catholic Pope Pius XII for (9th graders and older up to 21) is currently being scheduled. Super troop is a temporary troop made up of Scouts from troops around the council. Super Troop is a fantastic opportunity for Scouts to attend an extra week of summer camp, for a Scout to attend camp individually if they can't attend camp with their unit, or for those Scouts who just like to camp. Super Troop is staffed each week by experienced volunteer Scouters.

Summer camp is a week-long council-organized overnight camp for Scouts BSA that operates under council-retained leadership. The program provides opportunities for Scouts to earn merit badges along their advancement trail.

July 21-30, 2021 (plus travel days)

Scouting’s flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It’s a gathering of approximately 40,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the BSA and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America comes together. The result is the national Scout jamboree. Scouts and Scouters will explore all kinds of adventures—stadium shows, pioneer village, Garden Ground hikes, adventure sports, patch trading, and more—in the heart of one of nature’s greatest playgrounds. With 10,000 acres at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia to explore, there’s no shortage of opportunities to build Scouting memories. The jamboree is the best of Scouting rolled into 10 days of fun, friends, and adventure. You won’t want to miss out on this incredible Scouting experience. Qualified adult leaders are needed to serve as jamboree troop Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters and crew Advisors. Qualified youth can attend the jamboree with the council contingent.

Adventure Camp is weekend campout for Cub Scouts and their families at Bovay Scout Ranch. Cub Scouts and their families will enjoy an exciting variety of activities at several program areas. Meals are eaten in the air-conditioned dining hall. A staff member in each area will provide program supplies and support the parents who will be invited to assist in leading the activities.

Adventure Camp

During family camping weekends, the pack leadership plans the camping program and food. Enjoy all the wonder and beauty of the central Texas rolling hills and lakes at Bovay Scout Ranch. Campsites, restrooms and showers are available; however, the program areas and dining hall are not available during family camping.

As the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) welcomes girls into Cub Scouts and older girls into the Scouts BSA program starting on February 1, it is important that families understand the program or organization they are joining.

There have been some instances where our volunteers may have inadvertently used the name or trademarks of the Girl Scout of the USA (GSUSA) brand in spreading the word that girls are or will soon be part of all BSA programs. GSUSA recently have filed a lawsuit asserting that these instances have caused confusion. While we don’t believe there has been any such confusion, we respect and support the GSUSA and their rights to their brand.

To ensure that we promote our programs in a clear and Scout-like manner, we have developed resources to make sure our leaders are aware of the do’s and don’ts in promoting BSA programs.

The Scouts BSA Brand Guidance Training is one of the efforts underway to be sure Scouters have a clear understanding of what they can do. This builds on the infographic, and the guidance provided to councils in April.

This training should be shared with all volunteers to bring this understanding to all parts of our community. While our goal is to encourage youth to join our program, we must always be clear in our communications about the program they are joining.

  • We are The Boy Scouts of America.
  • The Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA are different organizations.
  • We support all other youth organizations and do not disparage them.
  • We encourage parents to enroll all youth in a character development program that meets their needs – and the BSA is certainly ready to welcome them.

To aid you in this effort, councils and volunteers are encouraged to use these intro talking points as you host info sessions and launch efforts for Scouts BSA. Additionally, please use this resource to help address any questions you might get in the community about this matter.

Scout Fair coupon books are a brilliant way for units to raise money and prepare Scouts to earn their own way! The Scout Fair coupon book offers great savings for the buyer, while Scouts earn commissions for every $10 coupon book purchased. Buyers support the Scouting program while receiving hundreds of dollars in valuable savings from partners. All units receive a 30% base commission for each $10 Scout Fair coupon book sold, for funds turned in on or before April 6, 2019. Participate at Scout Fair with a booth and earn an additional 10% commission. Units can also take advantage of early bird turn-in dates offering 5%, 3% and 1% additional bonus commissions. In addition, your Scouts will qualify for prizes once they sell 15 coupon books. Please refer to the Scout Fair prize brochure for prizes and sales levels. 

Scouts and the entire family will enjoy visiting hundreds of booths with fun activities and crafts, learning Scout skills, meeting new friends and tasting the delicious outdoor cooking. Meet leaders and Scouts from your neighborhood. Sample the amazing dutch oven creations and other delicacies in the outdoor cooking area. Watch demonstrations, interact with participating booths from our community partners and pick up free offers. Scout Fair Booths: Every pack, troop, crew, ship, and post is encouraged to participate in Scout Fair on April 4, 2020. Units that participate at Scout Fair with a booth earn an additional 10% commission on Scout Fair coupon book sales. Every unit is encouraged to sponsor a booth at the fair. This is your opportunity to show our community what Scouting is all about and to share your Scouting skills with fellow Scouts and Scout leaders. In the past, booths have included craft stations (Cub Scouts), rope making (Scouts), orienteering (Venturing), and law enforcement (Exploring). Keep it simple and fun. By involving all the Scouts and parents in your unit, booth preparation and set-up, manning and takedown can be shared to keep it simple and make it fun. Each unit hosting a booth will receive a ribbon. The unit leader needs to register the booth by March 20, 2020.

The Leave No Trace Trainer Course is an overnight course for individuals, ages 14 and up who wish to guide units in developing a culture that effectively demonstrates responsible outdoor choices that reduce impacts of Scouting activities. Leave No Trace Trainersoutdoor ethics guides, and advisors are the backbone of Scouting’s outdoor ethics program, providing instruction to individuals and units wishing to adopt cutting-edge outdoor ethics into their unit programs. The event is being held at Camp Brosig in Sealy, TX from Friday at 6:00 pm to Sunday at 11:00 am.

Pack Coordinators for District Events

Every pack must have a minimum of one volunteer per event to assist at each district event in which the pack participates. The coordinator promotes the event within the pack, attends volunteer orientation meeting, and attends the event and assists event staff in the assigned job.
